Today's novel-avoidance strategies

1. Going to the dentist.

2. Hunting for a room to rent to write in - kind of counts as work, doesn't it? Anyone know of a self-contained studio/1BR unit going in the Inner West of Sydney for $150 or under?

3. Taking Jack surfing, because it's a non-exam day and apparently I promised.

4. Faffing around with the extra story that's going into the UK edition of Black Juice.

That should about do it, shouldn't it?

Oh, but I did write 3 pages of very thoughtful notes about the novel before breakfast this morning.

To make their edition more differenter and more collectable and such, I'd say.

I don't mind writing a new story - as you see, like blogging, it's a good excuse to avoid the novel.

Oh, all right, then. I'll get onto it Monday. (Slinks away, rubbing the whip-welts on her shoulders.)

Here is why the extra story - 2 copies sold, already, to Gwenda and Niall. Ka-ching!

Onyer, Chance!

And Niall, is that 2 sales, or one? Are you and Zara going to purchase, or is Zara just using your login? (Waits with pencil tip licked and poised to tick off guaranteed sales.)

And whassamatter, youse don't think I'll write a world beating novel? Just joking. It's a strange thing to say, I'll admit. I thought "However few copies we sell of this book..." was stranger, though.

(Returns to work on world beating novel...and freezes solid with self-consciousness.)

Hi Peter, it's nice to meet you. I'm sure there will be some way the story can be distributed in Australia. It was going to go into an Australian magazine, probably before UK publication date, but there was a 3000-word (or 4000 if it was very brilliant) limit, and the story ended up being (what I hope is a tight) 6300. So I'll have to come up with another for the mag. Bugger.

If they put it in the sampler, I'll demand extra copies for distribution to Australians.

It'd be great if it were in the sampler! I'm reading "White Time" at the moment (onto the last story) which I picked up at Infinitas in Parramatta (long way from home, went on a whim) and loving it.
