Reading

I was going to tell you about the books I've been reading lately, but I see I've already been so snarky tonight that it might be dangerous. This morning I was drafting the beginning of my rant: 'Sturgeon's law says that 99% of the sturgeon you catch are not going to have any caviar in them...' No, I really ought not to go on.

Maybe Wednesday will be better.

Hi Margo,

This is one of those annoying 'can I interview you for my assignment' email requests.

I'm a part-time student at Box Hill TAFE in Melbourne studying writing and editing, and I work full-time editing a magazine and information resources for a statewide disability advocacy organisation that supports families of children with a disability in Victoria.

I recently chose 'Singing My Sister Down' for a short story analysis in my short story class and am subsequently reading Black Juice (but only in the day time).

This assignment is for a subject called 'writer and research' and I have five questions, plus a standard sixth for anything extra you may want to add:

1. What do you enjoy most about writing short stories?

2. How do you balance having a 'day job' and 'a writing life'?

3. What are you currently working on?

4. How do you nourish and sustain your creativity?

5. Do you have any advice (or caution) for aspiring writers?

6. Is there anything else you would like to add?

I need to submit my assignment on Monday 28 April so if you are able to assist, I would need your responses before then. Feel free to be as brief or detailed as you like.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon,

Kind regards,

Fiona Gullifer
